LOL, talk about timing - I just PM'd you a minute ago <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It's probably just the 3 of us. I'll have plenty of spirits, but if you want proper beer then it's probably best to bring some. I usually only buy cheap larger type stuff...

Any time in the afternoon is fine, say 4pm for pre-curry nibbles and drink? Dinner is planned for ~7:30pm so probably nearer 9pm, unless you're late in which case I'll be ready early <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm off to sacrifice a fluffy little lamb tomorrow. It would be goat, but the only one I can find in the village is a bit old and stringy looking <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Righty then, we can easily be there by 4pm, maybe earlier unless I can convince Mr Red to stay in bed longer <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> and we'll bring some beer and probably the absinthe (at least) if you think of anything else just let me know and we'll organise it, have you still got my number?

4PM? That means an early start! <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

We'll come loaded with booze, and I might make some shortbread to bring with us (the closest thing I do to baking, and really nice, if I do say so myself <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

Personally not a fan of shortbread, although I'll try a piece just to rate it <!--emo&:P--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Big fan of booze though <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Should be no shortage of food. I tend to cater for about 6 people, which is usually fine but fails a bit if I get 20 people turn up <!--emo&:shame:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/shame.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='shame.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ostara

is at the spring equinox. I think the solar festivals of the equinox and solstice are a great way to arrange silly meetings, since they occur every quarter and lend a definite theme.

&#274;ostre is the goddess of the east and the rising sun. She's associated with Venus as the morning star, with fertility and new beginnings. She is symbolised with seeds, eggs, and the bountiful boinking bunny. It's no surprise that Christians in recent times chose her festival as the time to celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ.

For anyone who doesn't know about the Easter Bunny, here's a summary of the ancient (pre 16th century) story:

Eostre found a wounded bird in the snow. To help the little bird survive the winter, she transformed it into a rabbit, but the transformation was incomplete and the rabbit retained the ability to lay eggs. In thanks for its life being saved, the rabbit took the eggs and decorated them and left them as gifts for Eostre.

ref: http://www.twopagans.com/holiday/Ostara.html

So, anyway. . .

Friday 20th March

Anyone coming?

I seem to be going through an Oriental phase, so snacks and food are likely to be Thai, Chinese and Japanese. It does seem appropriate to look to the East at this time. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Unfortunately, my home made "Sake" will not be drinkable by then (if ever!) but I may pick up a bottle of the good stuff. I will be making the traditional Eastre Mulled Apple Wine (well, it's a tradition now!). I may also do after-dinner chocolate eggs rather than wafer thin mints <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'll be getting a supermarket.com food and booze delivery a couple of days before, so RSVPs by then please <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

There are some that take this festival very seriously. I'm not one of them. Here's a good example of what we won't be doing:

We'll be there (of course!), although probably coming seperately - Mrs R will more than likely come straight from work, then we'll head off afterwards to our individual family units for the mummies day stuff.

Mrs R is asking if there's anything we'd like her to arrange for the celebrations? In a totally not like the above kind of way, of course. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I don't think so really, although if anyone has any fun or interesting ideas then of course feel free. Otherwise, just bring your usual "laid back sexy entertainment" <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

*sound of obscure reference whistling past*

Any idea what time folks will arrive on Friday, and when you need to leave by on Saturday?

So far the menu comprises:

Starter: spring roll

Drink: Mulled apple wine

I haven't got much further, but I'm sure there will be plenty <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I've been pondering a Japanese chicken & egg noodle dish. How do people feel about soupy egg noodles?

I'll probably do pizza for Saturday brunch. I'll do one with anchovies, olives and mushrooms... and one without <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'll be coming straight from work, leaving about 3pm. Google Maps reckons about 1.5 hours but it'll depend how long it takes me to get out of Notts and down the M1 so if I say I'll be there about 5pm is that ok? Mr Red finishes work about 17:30 so should be about an hour later (ish)

I'll need to leave about 2pm on Saturday 'cos it'll take about 2 hours to get to the 'rents from there. Not sure about Mr R but I imagine he'll be about the same.

Menu (what there is so far) sounds tasty, not sure about the soupy egg noddles, I can't quite picture the taste or texture in my head but you usually serve up an impressive menu so I trust you and I'll happily try it.

Pizza is always a treat, I quite fancy the idea of giving anchovies a try, again, nothing I've really tasted before (due in part to my "no fish" rule) but I'll give it a try.

OK, the starter will be ready in a few minutes - just need to turn on the oven once everyone has turned up. Dinner will be... later, so the times all work out well <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm not sure about the soupy noodles either. It's a traditional Japanese dish which at first I thought was appropriate. A quick google found this rather odd fact:

http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/mother.asp

lol, but basically it's chicken pot noodle with egg on top.

I'm thinking of making chicken teriyaki instead. I've not done it for years, and I think it's probably more appropriate. The ramen dish is more a quick lunch type thing, and I have it quite often.

I'll add more stuff as I think of it. I'm guessing sushi is a no-go?

Well, looks like everything finalised.

Guest list: The usual four!

Starter: Spring rolls with a sweet chilli dip

Second: Chicken Teriyaki with Stir fried egg noodles and Chinese vegetables

Third: Pork and Peppers in Sweet chilli and lemon grass with prawn crackers

Pudding: Fragrant spiced baked rice pudding with fruit

Afters: Chocolates with mulled apple wine (for the brave!)

Brunch: Peperoni, or olive, mushroom and anchovy pizza. Salad and garlic bread on the side. Tea and biscuits to follow.

Extra: Sausage rolls, Liver pate, cheese and biscuits if anyone is still hungry!

Booze: A selection of wines, whisky and rum.

I think I'll have enough left-overs to last next week <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->
