I've just been having a play with the BIOS / CMOS settings.

From the 1250Mhz it initially displayed at post, it is now telling me I have an Athlon XP 2700+ running at 2204Mhx @40?C at idle.

The odd thing is that there was no increase in CPU frequency over the last 40Hz increase in FSB Hz. Would this be down to voltage limitations?

I also read in a guide from cpcff that AMD aren't affected by multiplier increases (decreases yes) but mine may have done (though I haven't fully noted all of the variables and results).

It would seem that the system was underclocked to begin with, probably the last 40hz didn't have any effect because you hit the maximum fsb speed.

What speed is the fsb running at now?

All in all though, a nice result, considering what you paid for it! :D

The FSB is at 260 and the multiplier is maxed out at 22.5x

There isn't much else I can do until I get windows repaired but that is where I'm having some issues.

I can't swap files around in knoppix without the root password. I've figured out how to do this but now the dcopserver isn't running / loaded. There are just so many options

There we go it appears to be all working now. I'm writing this message on 'Skippy' my new pc. I had to swap around a couple of system files with Knoppix but it eventually started up in win2kp. It was completely riddled with malware but AVG and adaware seem to have sorted that little problem. Zone alarm has finished the job of nicely.

I think there is still plenty of tidying up to do yet but that can wait a little while. It appears as though I've lost a lot of drivers.

Now all I've got to do is find a use for it.

Right, I've managed to get 128mb gpu from my friend in the uk. He was also kind enough to hand deliver it on Wednesday morning. It was quite a shock to open the door at 07:30 in the morning, wondering who the hell would visit at that time, and see my best friend fresh off of a flight from the UK.

Apparently he'd been planning it for just over a week and my wife knew all about it. The missus had also booked some time off work for me, so all in all it has been the best surprise I've had in a long time. Lucky I asked about the spare gpu when I did.

Unfortunately he left this afternoon (though my liver is rejoicing) and will have travelled 22,000 miles in about 6 days.

He came all that way for just a couple of days? Wow; cool - that shows true dedication to the art of drinking with a mate!
