Nope, no joy. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I just get the same page, but it says 'the category 'uncategorised' is filtered'.

There is an option this time to continue to the site 'for authorised work related purposes', but I don't dare click it, as it'll no doubt be monitored. <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The Triumph website I go to is still unblocked though, which is strange as pretty much everything else is blocked - I'm wondering if someone at head office IT is a Triumph fan! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Oh well. At least this place has a slightly more professional setup now; like PCpro rather than CPC <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well done for trying though, I guess it just wasn't meant to be!

In other related news, I'm moving house (again) on Tuesday, so I'll probably be without web access at all for a month or two <!--emo&:o--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo--> until I can get a new ISP sorted and so on.

I don't think even you can work out a way around that - unless someone wants to print out any new threads and post them to me, and then post my handwritten replies on here?

At my last job I was always getting caught out by squid guard, although it was catching me on the wrong things.

I could quite happily look at the Now Share with Friends and Workmates forum but I had frequent problems looking at news sites

Entertainment in the address = blocked site. bulk worktime

Teen in the address = block. bulk porn, even if it was about the duke of edinburgh awards. lol

The best one was hotmail though. I could use it easily enough but when you sign out and it goes to the msn uk page = blocked. bulk porn.

However with the thousands of times this happened I was never called up on it though.

It also blocked l3v1ck and gullyg's avatars at Dennis. = block, dinosaur and penguin porn probably.

That's a bit tricky anyway, what with there being no phone in the house....

I'll just have to hope one of the neighbors has an unsecured wireless setup. Free internet!

I get that problem as well - on the one remaining forum I can still access, people tend to post pics using photobucket etc - which is of course blocked.

The result is a load of threads where people post pics, everyone talks about it, and I can't see what the hell is going on. <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='rolleyes.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The next time I apply for a job, I'm going to ask them what their internet access policy is. If I can find somewhere that has unrestricted internet access, I'm there. I might even take a pay cut to do it! <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

OK Today I'm well miffed off <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Various things, but just to stick to computers. I've been having trouble with my gfx under Vista. No big suprise there I thought, and since I can't even scan, print or use my webcam with it I downgraded to XP.

My GFX card still sucked! Turned out to be a compatibility problem with my KT400 chipset. If I turned OFF the video acceleration, it all worked perfectly... but what's the F'ng point of a DX graphics card with Shader 3 support if it only works switched off!!!

I bought an Nvidea card because I was pissed off with ATi's crappy drivers! Aaaaarrrrgghhhh!!!!!

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=5247

More detail than you really want in that link, lol... but the long and short of it; install the Motherboard AGP drivers. I have and now everything is Okie Dokie. Stupid thing is, I told off the guy next door for not installing his MoBo drivers just a few weeks back!

I suspect it was the same problem with Vista. All those unexplained slow-downs and lagging were probably just the MoBo drivers. Ah well, I've not looked for Vista drivers and I don't intend to... it was gonna expire on me soon anyway. I'm still using 2K on most of my machines, so Vista can wait until I buy my next upgrade circa 2020!!

Incidentally, I solved my XP not installing problem (did I post about that?). It was my USB card reader. I'd unplugged everything including all the drives, cards - everything except the internal card reader which I'd overlooked! Poor old windows got confused by a USB drive with no card in...

Can I say 'Aargh!' on here?

I (and my flatmates - we are sharing the cost -woo hoo!) decided to get something half-decent for an ISP, and decided on BT. Not the cheapest around, but they're supposed to be good. It also came with that tacky white plastic mac-wannabe homehub thing.

Now the BB is fine, save for the occasional dropout (which is normal in the first few days, apparently), but this homehub/wifi thing is doing my head in! <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/angry1.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='angry1.gif' /><!--endemo-->

five times tonight the wifi has crapped out - it just drops for no reason at all. So I'll fiddle around trying to reconnect, reset the router, fiddle around some more, then give up and drag my cat5 down the stairs to plug into the ethernet port. Check the settings, all fine, change nothing, then hey presto! wifi suddenly works again. <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Its latest trick is to suddenly throw me off, then refuse to reconnect for 10 minutes, claiming a WEP mismatch. Dozy fluffy kitten of a router. <!--emo&:whip:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/whip.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='whip.gif' /><!--endemo-->

:EDIT:

Oh, and the firmware has no way of changing IP settings - it's DHCP only, and you can't even change the IP address pool. I've had to fudge it to 'always use the same address'. How lame is that?

I have just set up a home wifi also, and went through the WEP pain barrier. In the end, I just reset everything from the wireless router and started again. Seems to have worked so far. <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In Sydney my router would lock up quite frequently and chaning channels resolved the issue. It appeared that channels 6 and 11 are commonly the default, so see what others are in use around you and pick a clear one if possible. It may be worth changing channels anyway, perhaps the WEP problem is caused by another type of interference, especially if it is intermittent.

Yeah mine is on 11 too. I'll have to look at that if problems arise.

Actually I found that out earlier on another forum - apparently the default setup is channel 1 - although BT themselves recommend using channels 9-11! <!--emo&--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='rolleyes.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I've changed it now, so far so good....

Now back to the 'other' place to try and sort out my other network issue. You coming, JJ?

Already posted - but I've opened the Lager now, and I'm off to make deep-fried chock-ice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tempura_IceCream.JPG

The very nice man over the road came round with a crate of Fosters yesterday to say thanks for fixing his internets a couple of weeks ago! I was only there a couple of hours, and having found out that he's a plumber I've now got him coming round this weekend to fix my taps!!!

The old boy next door wasted about 3 days of my life on a self-inflicted PC problem a few weeks earlier, then buggered it up yet again, and all I got from him was a slightly begrudging "You're very kind". I wouldn't normally mind, but he does make a habit of it <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->
