Yes Wobbly. I'm sure I could <!--emo&:Aaarghh:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/pirate.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pirate.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well the Fox was dispatched at 9:05 this morning and arrived at 9:20 - it seams that "warehouse 2" is a completely different company; possibly one just around the corner going by the delivery speed!

Well, the PC is built but there is always some complication...

1. The MBD has an 8pin ATX 12V socket, and all my PSUs only have 4pin or 6pin. The 4pin seems to work OK, but is clearly not ideal.

2. My raid array is not recognised. FFS it's a mirror; there are two identical disks! I can't find an option to re-build or recover, so I need to back up a Terrabyte of data somewhere...

3. I booted to Linux to start the backup to USB drive. My USB drive is NTFS and I can't write to it from Linux <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Aaaargh what to do. This is the only PC in one piece with USB2 right now, and backing up using USB1 is p a i n f u l l . . .

I thought there was a linux version out a few months ago that was quite happy to write to NTFS.

*experimental support* was the term I remember. I'm not willing to experiment with that amount of data!

Besides, I don't have a version that does and by the time I download an image I could have finished the backup over USB1 on this machine, which is what I'm doing now...

I've got a few floppy disks you can borrow if you want? <!--emo&:unsure:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Send them by post, it will still be quicker than USB 1. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I think the only reason for the EPS12V power connector is so that it could run the ~130W Pentium D CPUs of yore. I think you should be ok with a 65W C2D.

OK now I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like Linux... specifically the Knopix Live I'm trying to use to copy stuff. It doesn't recognise any of my network adaptors or write to any of my USB drives, so that's pretty useless when it comes to copying data off!

I can't even burn to disk because it's locked with the Knopix disk in there!

I'm going with the floppies... How many do I need for 1TB?

Yay! I tried a different distro (Whax) and it found the network. I'm now transferring at 600K/s but at least it's working...

30 minutes to go, then I can try and build the mirror and get Windows on.

I really have to learn Linux - I spent 10 minutes staring at a screen telling me that my Demon Lisa needed an administrator to enable her to roam the network. WTF? The only Lisa I know was an old Apple with a brother called Bart...

OK I built the mirror.

Now guess what - Windows wants RAID drivers and I don't got none <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

1.Create Intel 32bit RAID floppy driver

&nbsp; Insert floppy disk to floppy drive and run

&nbsp; "CDROM:&#092;Driver&#092;RAID&#092;ICH7R&#092;Floppy&#092;f6flpy32&#092;F6flpy32.exe"

FFS this is 2007 and I don't have a Floppy Disk that works!!!!

Well I found my old floppy disks. Some of them look useful still; I may need that copy of IBMDOS yet! One of the disks had nothing written on it, so I used that.

It wasn't empty. It had some jpeg and bmp files on dated 1997. Guess what they were <!--emo&:P--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So I found a floppy, a drive, checked everything with Scandisk...

but the fecker just wont load.

"Error 4 - I hate you. fluffy kitten off"

and then it shuts down <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm trying to boot to Linux, and now it won't. It says there is a resources collision. I have NO cards plugged in - it's all on board stuff, so WTF is conflicting?!

Surely an Intel motherboard should be less bother than this..??

Well, everything is in and running. I've even done a backup using "Reflect" which came on a recent PCpro; although I can't get the recovery disk to boot - oh well, a job for another day.

I gave up on installing raid. I know the floppy and drive are good because I've tested them thoroughly, but Windows simply refused to install the drivers. It starts loading them off the disk, and then throws an "error 4 - can't continue" and just stops. So I have 2 seperate 500GB drives and I'll have to manually backup.

I've installed XP so at least I can use things like synctoy.

The chair works too. I just need more room to spin around and race about.

My media centre is now a pile of bits, so that's my next computer task.

AARG - f*cking Firefox has decided it's in America again! I think I can reproduce this issue now; it just doesn't work except on the profile you installed it under! If I log on as Administrator it was fine; but under my user it's American - despite re-installing the UK dictionary. Stupid f*cking thing <!--emo&:rant:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/angry1.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='angry1.gif' /><!--endemo-->
