How tight is tight?

Post by belchingmatt »

Ok so I'm ready to book my flight. I'm going late Nov because it is the best part of fifty notes cheaper than going in Dec, but my dilemma is this:

I can go for ?489 if I am happy to stay in Singapore for 5 hours.

I can go for ?520 if I am happy to stay in Singapore for 90 mins.

So which should I choose?

The tight fluffy kitten in me says read a book for 5 hours and yet the adventurer says use that time to explore Singapore. If I wanted to discover Singapore then I could possibly get a longer stopover.

My current leaning is towards the 5 hour stopover. I'm quite happ to endure that with a good book because it actually means it is more suitable to my sister who will drop me off, and my friends at the other side who I will be staying with. Of course a stopover outside of the airport will include more money so what would you guys suggest with the info I have provided?

Replies requested urgently as I would quite like to book this before I go to sleep tonight.

There are plenty more fish in the sea, get your tackle out and see what bites.

I'd go for the 5 hours because it's more relaxed. 90 minutes isn't really that long to make a connection. You can stretch your legs and get a decent cup of coffee without any worries, and you've got time to explore the airport if no further afield.

Plus the money saved easily pays for the coffee <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well after a no doubt late arrival the 5 hours will soon become 4. I don't really want the cost and confusion of travelling into the city so prolonged straight trough may be the best idea. I also know that Singapore airport does a decent massage, something that was a little rushed last time I went trough because of the 90 minute clock watching.

So unless I hear anything else worth considering in the next hour I'll go for the tight option. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Go for the 5 hour,

Do a bit of exploring then back to the airport. Simple, no?

I think that settles it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Never had one, but after a million hours on a plane sounds like a good time!

What, even at airport prices? <!--emo&:o--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I say do the 5 hour stop. Even if it was slightly more expensive, that's what I'd do.

I've done short (<2 hours) stopovers before, they are hell. Just enough time to get off the plane, find your departure gate, grab a quick coffee, then the 'go to gate' signs come up. <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well I'm booked now. I'm on 33C for the 1sy leg and then 33A for the 2nd. I can handle atrocious travel conditions by experience so as long as I have a good book there is nothing to worry about. The ?30 I save will pay for a massage and coffee so at least I won't be rushed in case of delay. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I had a similar length stop in Singapore a few years back when I went to Taipei.

There's a free coach tour you can go on that kills a couple of hours <clicky>.

I can't tell you much about it I'm afraid, because whatever it is that stops me sleeping on 15 hour flights really, really doesn't work on buses...
