I opened this brand new tin to use on a pine dresser we've just bought. It's chemical resistant and heavy wearing, so I thought it would be perfect.

I went to prize the lid off, and it exploded! I've kept it indoors to prevent it from freezing, but it's completely set solid. I've got older tins of varnish which have been open for years which are just fine! This one has set into a chemical cheese floating in a tin of solvent <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' />

Now I need to get another tin... it's not cheap this stuff!

Edit, 6pm: OK I've finished varnishing the thing using half a tin of Homebase Gloss which the previous owners of this house left in the garage. It must have been 10 years old at the very least, but it's done the job.

I only had 1/2 tin though - so I've only varnished the top & outside with one coat. Don't look too closely <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' />
