Some people suggested that Windows shouldn't come with IE at all, and others objected that you needed IE to download your browser of choice.
To me, it seems stupid to suggest that Microsoft not bundle their own browser with their own OS. However, there is no real technical reason why it's needed. I sarcastically suggested that users FTP their required browser from the CMD prompt as an alternative:

Open a command prompt.
login using anonymous and password
change to the download directory by typing:
set binary mode:
and download the install package:
close the session:
now run the install package:
It's just so simple. I don't know why everyone doesn't do it like that.
Note that last line: It's just so simple. I don't know why everyone doesn't do it like that.
Doesn't that absolutely stink of irony? I thought so. Nobody does it like that, it's obvious! They all use IE to just download it from the Opera website!
However, the much respected "big_D" (who lives in Germany, dunno if that's relavent) didn't seem to notice:
big_D wrote:And how is the average user, who might be able to tell the difference between a Firefox icon and an IE icon, supposed to know that?
The less well respected "CrapBag7" didn't get it either, and didn't take kindly to having it pointed out!

As for JJW009's post, my mum would struggle to google for, download and install another browser let alone type all that in to get one. She doesnt even know what other browsers are available as I'd imagine is the case for most of the general public.
Not often do I see sarcasm misinterpreted on this forum. Though he has a valid point all the OS vendor needs to do is put a gui on top of that process with a list of the top 20 and a way of pointing to your fav if it's not there.
Wheres the smiley faces etc to indicate sarcasm, smart fluffy kitten :?
Annoyingly, I'd already posted a lengthy reply while he was posting his quip. Luckily, I'd said "I should have used the "sarcasm emoticon" " but I could have worded it better if I'd posted later...
Anyway, In Your Opinion - was my sarcasm bleedin' obvious, or did it really need a picture drawing?!
