I think I drank enough for everyone

The bottle was pretty much empty in the morning. I was so sure we'd only had half. It must have been the cats

There were only the four of us, but we had a good time. The restaurant had run out of most of the menu, but luckily the remaining options were very tasty indeed. Next time, I think I'll just have the salad which was really rather fab and gave me a few ideas for different dishes.

Today we had a really good Sunday roast, and I had one very tiny sip of and extremely good wine and an extremely good Scotch. KW had rather more generous measures, since he wasn't driving. I'm glad to say we got home safely despite the rain and his drunken singing*

*it's a lie, thankfully.

Thought I'd post the pics here, as well as the other place. In the end, I guess it was as much a Silly meetup as it was a DUMP one

Shame about the others not making it. Especially Tom who was actually in Exeter and says he thinks he might have spotted me

Cut and paste from the dump:

We spent an hour or so seeing the sites. Mrs Wench is a most knowledgeable tour guide, and we were very lucky with the weather. We also visited the shop where Jon bought his giant mug. I also now have a 2 pinter, which is most excellent.

After the tour, we ate at the Turkish place which was very good, and not bad value. It came to less than ?10 a head, and we had a main dish each plus a whole bunch of extras. I'll definately eat there again if I'm in the area.

After that we had a quick coctail, each glass costing as much as a main dish at the restaurant so we just had the one before hitting the Coop and going back to Jon's to drink whisky and play with the cats.

Sorry you couldn't make it, we had a great time. It was very relaxed; Jon and Wench did a most excellent job of playing host and made us feel right at home. There were even home-baked jam tarts for tea, and home baked bread for breakfast

Here's the pics, taken on a phone by a rubbish photographer:

Cathedral:

Pointy thing with shiny balls:

Old thing. Note, the walls have no windows and the windows have no walls:

Parliament Street. Apparently it's the narrowest one anywhere:

Double post to remind people, the next event at Silly Central is:

Saturday October 25th

It's the evening the clocks go back, so we get an extra hour of drunken fun and sleep for free. It's my favourite night of the whole year

I have nothing planned except for generally feasting. I hope to do some research on Turkish food, because I really do love it. It's got as many dishes as Indian, and I think a lot of them would freeze/reheat well so I could make them in advance. I'll probably do a few curry dishes too. It's a good mix, especially if there are vegetarians. There will definitely be some dead sheep for the carnivores though!

One thing I won't be doing again is the dodgy supermarket pizza. If I do pizza for a snack, it'll be home made.

RSVP and PBAB!

If there are any games people like to play, then mention them too. I expect there will be "Slam-dunk the host in the Bombay Mix" or similar, but all ideas are welcome

Does that mean, based on your picture at t'other place, that might be a small child wearing an anorak, cardigan and shorts driving around Exeter in a Saab?

I do rather like that idea. Perhaps Exeter has something of the "Deep South" about it

On a lighter note, I'm doing Roast Lamb with New Potatoes for tea on Saturday. Anyone want to come? There's plenty to go around

We'd love to but I suspect we'll still be rather the worse for wear after our date tonight. We're checking out another local which does curly fries and good beer, and plan to really tie one on. We've never been completely ars3holed in each others company beforwe so this will be interesting!

We're going to try and make it, Red is checking on the details of his mums birthday plans (honest, he is ) and then we'll RSVP properly.

On a slightly related note, are you up for visitors on the 27th?

On that date I shall be having a jolly time in Cambridge with CirrusMinor and a few others, celebrating his 15th wedding anniversary

I'm still unsure what to take as a gift for Mrs CirrusMinor. It was also his birthday this week, so I have a three gifts to think of - although it's only the girly one I'm having trouble with

Ooh that sounds like fun, I bet you'll have a fab time. We'll hopefully look forward to seeing you on the 25th of October then.

It was fun

I didn't take enough pictures though. Usually I have my phone out clicking away at all the food, but I guess the wine got the better of me! I'll blog about it later.

Just about to do the invites for the 25th, for the benefit of those who never actually read the forum. Depending on numbers, it'll probably end up as a sit-down dinner. Curry, cake and cheese being likely guests.

It'll probably cost you about ?9000 in petrol, but of course you're welcome!

If you don't mind roughing it a bit, then I've got about 100 sleeping bags or duvets. Mr & Mrs Red have dibs on the spare double bed because none of the other guests are too keen on sleeping together - it's not that kind of partay

There's a chance we may be playing Cthulhu at some stage, but the map and the lamp seem to have gone to sleep or otherwise not responding to my pokes so I'm unsure. Party could run from Friday to Sunday, so plenty of time for whatever.

There's an even smaller chance we might play Quake, and a moderate chance of DDR.

Music could be very random; from Jpop to death metal or random engine noises - depends on who gets control of the mouse

The only thing that is certain, is there will be Chilli flavoured crisps.

What's less certain, is if I'll ever finish doing the official invites I almost started...
