Shed.

I did as much as I could myself, then KW was here from about 14:30 to 20:00 helping me with the big stuff.

I'm never building anything ever again that's made from timber. Nothing lined up. The doors have an 8mm gap around, and the latches don't latch by a mile. The glass doesn't fit in the frames, and the windowsill is made of bendy rubber which won't support anything. There was much swearing.

There's still a lot of bits to do. It's not screwed down yet. The roof needs the ends doing and the felt properly tacking down. The doors need re-hanging. The glass isn't fitted at all, and I'm not actually sure how to do that. However, the hard work is over and I should have it all done by the end of the week <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Hurrah!!

That looks brilliant, and it'll be even better once you've sorted out all the niggles. I can't believe it looks so huge!! What are you going to put in it?

In my garden shed I will mostly be storing gardening things <!--emo&:P--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Lawn mower, strimmer, hedge trimmer, spades, forks, chemicals, peat, garden furniture etc. etc..

I've now finished all the nailing. I started about 10am, so even allowing for breaks that's still over 5 hours! I'm currently fitting some cupboards and hooks and things.

Annoyingly, I seem to have run out of creosote. I need to get some before it rains <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

No monitors are going in the shed!

Here's a photo update.

Looking in you can really see how big it is.

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... rsOpen.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I has cupboards. They is mostly full of chemicals and tools

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... pboard.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I can finally hang the mower somewhere I don't trip over it!

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... gMower.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

And the rakes will no longer smash my face in:

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... gRakes.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

However, I am truly apalled by the crapness of the doors:

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... tDoors.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

Look at the gaps! The door frame is over an inch wider than the doors, and also a completely different shape! I don't think anything is square.

Se the little twiddly catch thing here? It's supposed to be on the baton bellow it, but it missed by about 2 inches so I had to add a bit. 2" FFS - that's not even close!

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... sCatch.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

See the light shining through the holes? That's where the rain will come in and cause everything to rot and rust:

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... rsLeak.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I needed to work on the windows too. Those pale pieces of wood you can see above the cupboard had to be added because the "Window sill" was so pathetic and bendy it just couldn't hold the glass. I also added beading at the top, because the plans just left it rattling in the breeze! I have considered puttying the panes in, but it seams a little redundant making the windows draught proof when there's gaps elsewhere you could get your arm through.

<img src='http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/ ... wProps.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I have now creosoted the new wood. Tomorrow I will do the whole thing, and perhaps paint the inside with a "Red Cedar" preservative. It's brighter than the dark brown which would help with finding stuff. I also have solar lighting to fit, although I'm not sure how often I'll be shedding after dark <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I have a few ideas about the doors. The obvious thing is to build a new frame to put them in. Alternatively I could make one big door that actually fit, but that might be too heavy. With the two doors the weight is balanced so the frame won't twist further. I need to think about it, but it's a real pain!

The shed was really poor quality and bally hard work. I'm never buying another!

That's good. I wouldn't like to think of it rotting away in less time than it took you to erect it. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Tomorrow is the last day of sunshine, so hopefully I shall be able to finish painting it. I've done over half the inside. The outside should be easier. I think I might paint the ceiling white.

I was considering using daub to fill the gaps. I think the cat litter will make a suitable smelly gunk, but then maybe not <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->
