Ok, I'm all out of ideas. Unless everyone is free the 19/20th weekend in May then we're looking at 9/10th of June for a proper session?

(June 9th/10th would mean bringing New Dog - not something your cats would relish, I suspect!)

Okey Dokey,
19th/20th of May it is! we should be just about finished turning Duck eggs by then and Red is going to try and get a dose of Nettle beer ready for the event as well
KW - We've been talking about the 9th/10th June and we're thinking that another cat/dog experience is about due. So we were wondering if you are both free that weekend and whether you would like to bring New Dog to stay? We're planning to keep the cats in for the introduction but we were wondering whether New Dog will settle down and lose interest after a little while or if he's likely to remain manic the whole time?
Our cats won't run if they're in the house, historically they hackle up and growl a lot, but as long as you're ok with the possibility of a bit of segregation in the event that it's needed then we'd like to invite you both to stay.
The problem with Jimmy was that he's a border collie, everything is a plaything to him and he never tires, he was totally manic the entire time he was here and I seem to recall that after a ball game outside ND was happy to lay under the table and sleep for a bit. Jimmy just never did settle down at all and I think that was a major part of the kitty problem.
Still, they have to get used to Dogs as we'll be importing our own sooner or later, so if we can get them used to New Dog that will be a big step forward.
If either of you need any more convincing, it's almost a certainty that we'll have baby ducks by then, old enough for some cuddling and some splashing in the bath

I think New Dog would probably be fine with the cats, he'd stay away from them if they growled at him! And he didn't really take that much notice of KJW when he last went to JJ's. He might possibly chase them outside if they're running away - but I suspect he'd be a lot more interested in the chickens! (and ducks, this afternoon he chased one a few hundred metres down the brook - currently something of a raging torrent - they, unlike most birds, seem to think that flying away is far too much effort and think that jumping into water will deter ther pursuer - not so with New Dog who's perfectly happy to jump in after them and can swim surprisingly rapidly..)
He will settle down and go to sleep once people are doing things uninteresting to dogs - such as sitting around drinking and talking nonsense - provided he has had a decent walk and the odd supplementary game of ball fetching. Otherwise he'll just pester them until he's taken out. I've looked at a map and it seems there's a footpath from about halfway down the road to Baxterley that goes to Baddesley Ensor which appears to have a large common - I assume that it's ok for dogs to run around there?

I had a quick look at Google maps yesterday and couldn't see the path you mentioned, but you can go all "intrepid explorer" and we can send you both out with a thermos flask to go find it. The locals won't be bothered by a dog as long as he's not worrying animals and as long as you take his poop home (you can put it in the compost if you like) and you'll need his lead for the portion along the road.
We can play supplementary ball games in the paddock all afternoon if required I'm hoping that eventually this weather will sort itself out and we can have a proper fire and sit outside, which means we can pretty much play ball with ND until bedtime! I think we should arrange it
So, JJ & KW and Mr Red - supplementary, follow-up moot 9th/10th June at Chez Red, to include (hopefully) ducklings?

This is what i'm thinking
Assuming that we arrive at about the usual sort of time he will have already had an afternoon walk so ball throwing in the paddock should do for Saturday, so he only really needs me to take him on Sunday morning (at annoyingly early o'clock).

Yep fine, see you then. Doesn't look like beer will be ready for this time, but next time it means there will be ducklings AND beer

Now at home still digesting sausage and bacon. It may be an hour or so before I can cut the grass!
Looking forward to the next one, although I don't think the beer will be ready by then either - especially if anyone wants it clear!

We've just come in from the garden. Front and back are tidy, paddock is half mowed and I've done almost all of the strimming! Shattered now but squash still to go before I can shower and collapse in bed!
Great to see you both, it's always a good passage of a weekend to have you here.
