How many cam oil feed restrictors should their be in an A-series block? Two or one?

Right,

Bottom end of the engine, on the water pump side you have the crank shell bearings, these feed the crank and the cam with oil. The middle cam oil feed has a restrictor in to stop all the oil going to the cam. The one nearest the pump did not. I found it's not suppose to as that hold feed the rocker and cam with oil.

Thats pretty much it.

Also white spirit and gunk = AWESOME!

Ah, that makes sense now. It's been so long since I last saw an a-series' naughty bits, I've forgotten what they're like.

I agree on the gunk & white spirits, but this is seriously messy. I'm having to scrape the gunge out with a screwdriver, it's that bad. I don't think this has had an oil change since... well, ever, from the looks of it. <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That would be nice. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Let him know it's an aluminium block & heads though - that might make a difference.

Most of the engineering companies round here charge a fortune for dipping, so I'd pretty much ruled that out as an option!

I just passed a sign saying for rugby follow the <picture of rugby ball> <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Rugby is just down the road from here too; I guess just on the opposite side to you!

I was gonna say if you can get to Daventry in about 1980 my dad could get it cleaned. They used to have a massive vat of carbon tetrachloride which they put things like Cummins truck engines in. They then used ultrasound to deep-clean it.

Carbon-tet kinda got banned though <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Somehow I reckon that if we could go back in time then cleaning engine parts would be the least of our worries. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Too true.

If I could go back to 1980, I'd just invest as much money as I could in IBM, Intel & M&#036; shares. Then, on return to 2007, I could then just use the money to pay some bikini-clad laydees to do all the cleaning for me! <!--emo&B)--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/cool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='cool.gif' /><!--endemo-->
