I'm thinking of hosting a file-share site... strictly members only so we can ahem... discuss things by swapping files in a totally legal way ...

So... interested?

There will be a link you click on the WebSite bit - it will ask for a username / password then you can upload / download stuff... any stuff...

cool or pointless?

sure, count me in!

my participation would be in the 'passive' range to start with however, due to my unfortunate case of dialuposis. still, a good healthy dose of BB will get me back to rights again!

unless you're thinking of sharing really small stuff....TXT files i can do!

I've not worked out how to do any chatting on it - so to start with, I'll PM people a password, then you click the link and put in your extra user name / pass word... then you'll get an upload / download menu.

It might be ftp or http - I've not decided yet, but thats for me to worry about. Basically you'll see a folder full of stuff and you can give or take what you want.

I think to start, I'll ask that you email me a quick description of what you want to share - maybe your secret recipe for dumplings as an mp3 for example... If I think it sounds cool, I'll tell you the magic word

Obvious Rules... No really nasty stuff... just stuff you don't want everyone to see!

I have a mate who's really into "Faces of death" type stuff... I'm really not - so nothing mega bad, you get the idea? Street racing vids, dancing ladies, what ever - no file size limit (well - about 50GB but it would take all week to shift that so!)

Aaargghh... my lamar! Gotta go!

urgg... that was a fish joke, but it just sounded wet... I'm sorry

I can't understand why cmot is still on PAYG!!! He says he pays like ?100 a month on the dial up costs... I mean... duh!? I'm on Unlimited 1MB Broad band for ?6.50 a month!

I'm with e7even.com btw... they keep offering cheap renewals, it's more like ?12 a month to start with... f2s are good, and so are plusnet. I'd probably go with plusnet if I had to choose over again - e7 are shite, they keep breaking down

yeah, i'm still stuck on a BT BB contract from my old house, i'm trying to see if i can get that moved to my new place (trickier than it sounds, it's not in my name!

). i might as well try, i'm still paying for it after all! (24.99/month with a 20Gb limit

)

if that fails, i'll probably try plusnet, i've heard good things about them.

as for the file sharing, i get the idea. naughty, but not nasty, right?

and yes, CMOT is stupid. if he has to have dialup, why not go with a pay monthly jobbie? ?14.99 per month, job done!

OK everyone... for the time being the answer is ********* ... but only for the next 2 days!

NOTE - the sodding thing doesn't work in Internet Explorer... I'm working on a way around, but for now if you use IE then... it's too complicated but basically there was a security patch in July which broke the way passwords work. If you've got windows 98 and Internet Explorer 4 then you won't have any trouble!

Fire Fox: just works.

Opera: comes up with a warning "You are entering a website with a user name - continue?" - just say "Yes" duh!

IE6: See's the username and gets scared - IE no like Marmalade!!!

I've tried one alternative - using FTP - but it ONLY works in IE... Firefox and Opera don't support FTP uploads like IE does !!!!

See how different they look... bloody browsers !!!!

Fire Fox:
