lol, it was lovely though - but farking expensive (if you happen to be paying for it, anyway <img src='http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /> )

Actually, the hotel in question has one of those bars that you could spend a fortune in - a whole shelf of single malts, another shelf of cognac - I could have stayed there all night!

Unfortunately, the manager's hospitality only extended to one drink

lol... the hotel in welwyn had a similar range. I'd been buying drinks all night, and an elderly gent called Dave from Brum gave me a tenner and said "get us a couple more of these" ...

he expected change... he didn't realise that 2 doubles at ?2.50 a shot comes to ?10 !!

he said:

"You've been buyin doubles? no wonder I'm pissed!"

It never actually occured to me that you could order a single <img src='http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/huh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='huh.gif' />

heh, this is why I usually drink at home...singles just don't do it for me!

My usual spirit measure is '2 fingers' - last time I measured that, it was nearly 100ml - a quadruple shot!

But back when I was doing night shifts, we occasionally used to get people in the bar asking for '2 shots of your best cognac, please!'.

Oops. We are a 4 star hotel, and our 'best cognac' is a Louis XIII Remy Martin - one of the best around, which we sell for ?75 a shot!

It used to be fun watching people's faces when we asked them to pay ?150 for a couple of shots of brandy - although I got into the habit of charging people before I served the drinks!

lol... bloody good idea - although might come as a shock if you had a temp serving there!

The prices - BY LAW - are supposed to be "Clearly Visable" to all customers...

I've not been to may places where that's true yet!

mmm, that 'clearly visible' law is a bit of a fuzzy one....

In our bar, we don't have a price list on the wall, we have menus on the table - I was once asked to check the legality of this, and apparently we're covered on that.

Also, a bar only has to display the prices of the 30 best-selling drinks in the range - in our case, most of the really fancy stuff isn't on the list! I guess the idea is 'if you have to ask the price, then you can't afford it!'

The stupid thing is, most of the people that buy this stuff are out to try and impress their workmates/boss/girlfriend, and don't actually have a clue about the stuff - you could probably palm them off with a couple of shots of Courvosier (at about 1/20th of the price) and they wouldn't notice the difference!

lol... Courvosier is the good stuff I'd try to impress her with!

Tastes to much of Almonds for me... but it's still better than the stuff I get in for the Xmas Pudding !!!

lol, i tried some of the Louis XIII once (on the sneak), it was lovely!

not sure if it was ?75-a-shot lovely, though.....

anyway, what you drink tonight (if at all) redeyes. i (being of empty wallet) and drink fine imported water (its from a tap. what. it imported from somewere to my house)
