Link Layer Discovery Protocol

IEEE 802.1AB Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) simplifies network troubleshooting and enhances the ability of network management tools to discover and maintain accurate network topologies in multi-vendor environments.

LLDP defines a set of advertisement messages called Type-Length-Values (TLVs), a protocol for transmitting the TLVs, and a method for storing the information contained in the received TLVs. This allows stations attached to a LAN to advertise information about the system and about the station's point of attachment to the LAN to other stations attached to the same LAN. These can be reported to the management station through SNMP MIBs.

LLDP is supported in G250, G250-BRI, and G350 Media Gateways, and in C360 v4.5 switches.

OK so there's a random quote from an on-line course I'm trying to do... I have to pass an exam on it by the end of today... Aaarggh!

At least I know what SNMP MIBs are, which is a start <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I hate on-line learning! I can only learn by doing stuff <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Just thought I'd have a little winge...

Yup, that's a shite logo, and, it has to be said, a pretty daft name as well.

I'll be sure to resurrect this thread once I've passed all my CIMA exams - in about 4 years! <!--emo&:o--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
