I've just noticed a feature on Speedfan I've not seen before. It can give you a detailed report on your hard disk,
in plain English!
Got to the SMART tab and you'll see all the numbers. See that great big button labeled:
Perform an in-depth online analysis of this hard disk
Well... it does what it says <!--emo&:o--><img src='

Apparently my 160GB drive is doing very nicely, but it warns me that it has been switched on longer than most.
Before my 120GB drive died, I noticed some unusual SMART data. It worried me but I didn't really know what it meant. What it meant was impending doom; so next time I'll take note!

PRTG Freeware Edition
SNMP monitoring application:
Clicky
This application can monitor your SNMP enabled router and gather stats. It can display them in a pretty graphical format and has a built in web-server for remote access to the information.
Basically, monitor your home-server from anywhere for free!
The free version is limited to 3 sensors. I don't know about you, but I've only got one router...
