is ?175 for an unleaded 12g295 mini head with big valves, ported and polished too much?
Don't think the head has been used much but its a close to full race head.
To buy or not to!?!?!?!?

Hmmm, tricky one that.
(WARNING: The information posted below is quite sensible. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to return to silliness as soon as possible)
?175 for a head isn't too bad, as long as the porting has been done properly - who did it? If it was done by a reputable tuner, then all good. If it's a home-made one, then be careful.
The problem is, you say it's almost a full race head. Is it? If so, then that may be overkill for a road car - to get it working properly, you'll need a fast cam and a bigger (possibly twin) carb setup. All this, of course, will make El Gordo run like a bag of doggy poo at anything below about 3000RPM. Great for A-road blasting, but not quite so good in Tescos' car park.
So, assuming that the head only has a fairly mild porting done (ie stage 1 spec), and it's been done properly, then go for it - it sounds like a good buy.
On the other hand, if it really is a race head, then you're best off leaving it. Unless you're planning on doing some racing, in which case I'd like to see that.
And now some silliness:

Ta red,
Asked the guy and I'll see what he said. At least this would be a better option than my other idea to get a 1275 engine head, pocket the block and driver away merrily.

Nobody definate yet mate, but a couple who are interested.
Cheers Brett
Yo again, few more questions. I asked a good mate of mini and he pointed out some stuff I should ask.
How much is the head ported. Is it a mild or full race sort of port? Also who did the porting too.
Just El Gordo is my daily driver so I have to do low speeds too. Been told a full race spec style head on a stock cam might cause El Gordo to run like a sack of C**p. So this is the decideing factor.
Thanks for any info.
Adam.
Its no where near full race spec mate. The hours that go into making one of those are massive. I certainly wouldn't be selling it for what I am if it was. I was going to get Swiftune to take my 7 Port to full race spec and that was going to cost me over ?1200.
It has been ported to a point where it really should be matched to an ally inlet manifold else it'll be pointless but thats no head ache and is fairly simple. I couldn't honestly tell you who did the porting as I bought it already done.
Cheers Brett
verdicts people?
