(I saw that, it were clever that...)jonlumb wrote:Q. How many beans make five?
A. With beans you have to be very careful to get the 'magical' and 'non-magical' in the correct proportion. For instance, 3 magical and 2 non would give you a really wicked witch and a fairly decent gingerbread house, however, if you were to switch the proportions, the most you could hope for would be a 12 foot beanstalk with a family of pigeons in it. So, the question you should be asking is....

You get Strong, Weak, Strange and gravity if memory serves (but it has been a while since I read anything on the subject).

In this case the answer would be "Charmed" since I was referring to the "flavours" of quarks, they're paired as top/bottom, up/down and strong/charmed.
It caused no end of trouble when my 5 year old nephew was learning opposites at school..... <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In the six "Flavours" of Quark the answer should have been "Charmed"

Ah, I was thinking of the forces too. Isn't Strange the opposite of Charmed? It's been 20 years since I actually went to a tutorial, so it's all a little hazy!Mrs Redeyes wrote:Cool, I studied it at BSc level, now I just do it for fun?? <!--emo&:worm:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/blinking-worm_5225.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blinking-worm_5225.gif' /><!--endemo-->

*nearly* because my silliness exceeded my study by ever increasing amounts. I was studying BA in Physics, specialising in Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics and Beer. I got my Mods in the first year, but barely attended anything in the third <!--emo&:shame:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/4013/140/emo/shame.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='shame.gif' /><!--endemo-->

We were taught them as Strong and Charmed but tbh there are various different ways of describing the pairs and the interactions.JJW009 wrote:Ah, I was thinking of the forces too. I studied Quantum Mechanics, Particle Physics and Chemical Thermodynamics 'on the side' of my Bsc in Applied Chemical Sciences, I have Hons in Environmental Chemistry as well. I studied part-time while working full-time so I didn't get caught up in the "Beer Culture" (much)
Anyway, we're a bit off track here:

Chicken is a good answer. I'd also have accepted Mature Cheddar <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->
However, I did really expect a four page dissertation on the concept of "opposite" in relation to food. Bonus marks for elaborating on the contrast of Sweet verses Sour and for defining "Meaty" in both abstract and biochemical terms, with attention to the importance of hydrolyzed proteins.
And yes, I read your LJ entry about it <!--emo&:P--><img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->
