Help - Socket wiring

I've been unable to find a diagram of the wiring codes for an ethernet socket/wall outlet. There are plenty available for plugs, wires straight through and crossovers, in fact there are more than plenty available. I just need something that will explain how the 2 strips of 4 terminals should be wired, and I can't find anything.

Help please.

They're usually colour coded; blue/white white/blue orange/white etc. - match up the colour of the cable to the markings on the socket.

As long as they're done in pairs it doesn't really matter I guess - pin one at one end just has to go to pin 1 at the other end, if you see what I mean.

I'll take some photo's if I can't find it on Google...

That's the first hit if you do a google image search for "Ethernet Socket Wiring"

See what I mean about the colours?

If I was wiring between two sockets it wouldn't matter, I would make them identical. But as it is between a standard B.2 plug at one end and this socket at the other then surely I need to know how exaclty how it should be. Examples I've seen on the net could give me an idea but the socket isn't colour coded or numbered, bastard MK cheapskates.

Ok, this is what I can see. The small blocks are the terminals and the large one represents the actual socket.

So which way is up, and which is 1/2?

Sorry you've lost me - what is what you can see, and what the frell is a B.2 socket?

I work in Datacoms - I've wired up most stuff, and my Krone tool has left a permanent dent in the palm of my hand... but I have no idea what you're trying to do

OK I still really can't imagine what that is. The only thing I can suggest is that you look up the part number. Do you have any way of knowing that? Or at least what make it is? Only other option is buzz it out with a meter to find out what's connected to what.

I'm still curious what a B.2 is? Normal CAT5 stuff uses RJ45 plugs.

I think that if the tossers at MK had decided on numbering the terminals then they would have given them a part number as well.

I think more importantly as the moment is to make sure the metal power face plate is earthed.

I tried both orientations according to the wiki diagram, and they both failed. I have sworn at it, and dismantled the unit entirely so I know exactly which pin goes to which terminal. I am just about to try it out.

Well I managed to get it working so problem has been resolved. Something tells me it should have been easier than it was, so I would make sure I got color coded outlets in future. I can't believe the ?5000 boardroom table came without quality ports.
