I just got back from lunch and when I was in the lift I was bouncing up and down really quickly (don't ask). The lift stalled between floors and wouldn't restart. I waited a couple of minutes thinking whether I should use the phone but then noticed that the inner doors were unlocked.



I opened them up and could then see the mechanism for the outer doors on the 1st floor at eye height. As the floor of the lift was half way up the height of the 1st floor doors I opened them all up and dove through. I needed a pee and if I had waited for an engineer no doubt he would have known exactly the reason it had stopped.

At Granada TV in Bedford they had a constantly moving lift with no doors on. You just jumped on and off - which terrified me. Aside from the danger of being mutilated scissor-style, I always imagined the top and bottom being full of mangling cogs. I always used the stairs...

I've been around a cyclic lift in Essex uni's library. You're not supposed to but it is a good laugh anyway.



I was a little concerned at first, but the gap was large enough for me to dive through quickly. Quite exciting really. In fact the last time I jumped through a gap .....
