Music & Downloading
Music & Downloading
I've often talked about this, about DRM and the fact that I value owning a CD or record with all the printed sleave notes etc... but I've just gone to look at thinking about maybe purchasing an LP on LastFM (The Fat of the Land, Prodigy - I can't believe I still don't have this) and I have the following two choices:
7digital 192kbps MP3 download; ?7.99
Amazon CD; ?6.97
WTF? Remind me, where is my incentive to legally download when it's cheaper to buy off Amazon and probably cheaper still in HMV!!?
On the good side - at least they have it in a half decent format. 192 mp3 is a lot better than *some* places!
So my question is; have you ever actually downloaded music legally and how much?
I've never downloaded anything I had to pay for... I have a lot of perfectly legal downloads that came as demo tracks or whatever; lastFM is cool for that... but just like when I was a kid copying stuff onto tape, I confess most of my stuff is copied.
I do buy CDs when I find something I really like - all my PJ Harvey is on CD, and going back about 20 years all my Black Sabbath is on Vinyl
Most other stuff? I only play it once, if that. I've got anthologies of bands with hundreds of tracks that I've only ever listened to about 1% of
I'm loving LastFM - you can stream pretty much anything you want for free; and if you can find it on BoobTube then you get it with pictures. There are certain bands which improve greatly when you can see them girls aloud
